Obesity - Today's Weight Epidemic
By Jeff FosterObesity today has grown in numbers and continues to grow at analarming rate, especially in the modern day western worlds. Essentially, obesity is a condition in which there is way toomuch fat being carried by your body... and today, obesity isreaching epidemic proportions. Beginning with the most obvious health concern, obesity puts anenormous amount of strain on the joints and architecturalstructure of the body itself. This continual strain over a longperiod of time will effectively break down the joints and canlead to arthritis and chronic pain. As the weight goes up and the body struggles to accommodate theextra pounds, people will generally become less and less activeonly contributing to the weight gain cycle. Beyond the everyday strain that it put on the joints by beingobese, the lack of activity, the general poor eating habitswill also cause strain to the heart and the blood vesselsresulting in high blood pressure, a higher risk of stroke, andother circulatory health issues. Obesity can also lead to sleepapnea which is the temporary stopping of breathing during sleep.Once the body reaches a state of obesity, the ability toreverse the trend is difficult. By this time, it's usually notjust a battle against the weight problem, but a battle forone's self esteem and confidence that they can win the battle.Obesity can be overcome, but it takes patience and a long termapproach. Not just a new 'latest' diet. If you found your way to an obese state, the first place tostart your journey back to a recognizable weight is with yourphysician. Take the time to to discuss your weight and yourplan to begin to reclaim your body. Be sensible and berealistic and work with your doctor as it pertains to both yourdiet (eating habits)and any type of newly found physicalactivity. Defining Obesity. Medically speaking obesity is defined as having a body massindex of 30 or higher. Body mass index is simply a measurementof the person's weight proportional to their height. The bodymass index works as a simple benchmark to indicate an amount offat stored on the body. Needless to say the higher the numberthe greater the risk to the various health problems brought onby being overweight.About the Author: For more important information on weight lossbe sure to visit http://www.weight-loss-won.com where you willfind product reviews and tips on weight loss, dieting, andmore. So before you diginto a meal, look over whats available and start with thelowest-calorie offerings first. Drink a large glass of waterbefore starting, then have a nice, big helping of salad. Weight Loss Diets: Fact And Fiction, Part 1
The weight loss industry is a booming industry worth billionsof dollars annually. It therefore should be no surprise that weare constantly being bombarded with new 'miracle' products andweight loss programs that will shed the pounds quickly andwithout much effort. Navigating the plethora of dietinginformation to distinguish between fact and fiction can bedifficult, but it is certainly not impossible. A good starting place to discover the truth is actually touncover the fiction. Once we know what isn't true, we canconcentrate on genuine information that supports weight loss. Here are four of the most common weight loss myths: Skipping Meals Will Help You Lose Weight The idea behind this is that if you eat less food, you willautomatically lose weight. While on the surface this soundslike it should work, it doesn't take into account the body'smetabolic response to what it sees as starvation. It slowsright down to give you the best chance of survival. This meansthat you burn fewer calories. The truth of the matter is,eating more often but smaller healthy meals raises themetabolic rate and aids weight loss. You Can Eat What You Want As Long As You Exercise You have to do an awful lot of exercise to burn off a chocolatebar. The value of exercise is not so much that it burns calories(although that certainly helps), it is that it raises themetabolic rate so that you burn more calories faster allthrough the day. If you need to lose weight, you cannot eatwhat you want. You do need to exercise discipline while youshed those extra pounds. Diet Pills Will Make You Slim Diet pills do not make you slim. Most diet pills are designedto suppress hunger and it is not eating as much that helps youlose weight. However, diet pills do not control the calories orfat content of the food you do eat, so you might eat less foodbut still the wrong food. Furthermore, pharmaceutical dietpills have unwanted side effects that can have long termaffects on your health. Some natural diet pills such as hoodiagordonii have the advantage of suppressing appetite withoutside effects, so if you must go down this path, they are thepreferred option. Nevertheless, simply eating less will notguarantee weight loss unless the food you are eating is healthyand calorie controlled so that you can lose weight and maintaingood health. Calorie Restriction Is The Best Way To Lose Weight The Calorie Restriction Diet is a controversial diet founded onthe belief that severe calorie restriction slows the agingprocess. Many people believe that substantial calorie reductionwill reduce metabolic stress and in so doing, increase lifespan. Calorie counting on its own is not good dietary practice. While it is true that counting calories can be very helpful inmanaging energy intake, the quality of those calories is veryimportant. The nutritional impact of the food eaten is veryimportant and will affect all aspects of health, includingweight stabilization.About The Author: Learn about Weight loss dietplans athttp://www.weightlossdietplans.net

Pain Prevention: How To Avoid Carpal TunnelSyndrome & Taking Action Now Makes A Difference
If you've never experienced it, consider yourself lucky. CarpalTunnel Syndrome-a painful condition caused by swelling of thetendons in the wrists-is no joke. Hundreds of thousands ofpeople suffer from the affliction on a daily basis; many havehad to quit their jobs or abandon favorite activities, and theworst part is. chances are, it could have been avoided. CTS is caused by repetitive, unnatural movements such as typingfor extended periods of time or manipulating machines thatvibrate. Those that have experienced the onset of CTS firsthandoften complain of intense pain, swelling, limited handfunctions, loss of strength, even loss of feeling. There are some basic steps you can take to prevent-or at leastreduce-your risk of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome: Spend the time and money on outfitting your desk properly. Manyof us who feel we don't spend "that much" time on our homecomputers know that we're sitting in an uncomfortable, unnatural position, but decide to just suffer through it. Badidea. Even short amounts of time spent working in unnaturalpositions over the course of weeks can be harmful. Install anergonomically correct keyboard tray on your computer desk. Ourfavorite is the Basic Keyboard Tray from Versa Products, Inc.There are numerous great keyboard trays on the market now, butthe Basic Keyboard Tray was the top of the line for under $100,and it installs to pretty much any existing desk you have. Keep your hands warm. If you work in a cold environment, eitheroutside or a building where you can't control the temperature(like a warehouse), wear fingerless gloves that keep themuscles in your wrists from cooling down and tightening. Alternate tasks to avoid overuse. Sure, logically it makessense to enter all the orders on the computer at once and thenmove on to filing, finishing that in one fell swoop too. Don'tcompromise the health of your body for efficiency. After all,how efficient will you be when you type more slowly due towrist pain, or need to use both hands to pull heavy files? Takebreaks and alternate tasks, giving your muscles time to relaxand readapt. Reduce your force. Instead of pounding on your keyboard likeyou're Mozart banging out a concerto, touch your keyboardlightly. Hold pens and levers with a relaxed grip. Use a sawingmotion to cut rather than pressing down with your wrist. Payingattention to unnatural pressure on your hands and wrists is keyto realizing when you're putting yourself at risk. Treat yourwrists well, and they'll do the same for you.About The Author:http://www.versatables.com/pages/keyboardarmmain.php
